Hello, hello!
I apologize for my absence. Somehow my time flies by so quickly…
Anyway, today I want to share with you the uses and benefits of one of my favorite oils – the coconut oil. Coconut oil is the densest nutrient part of the coconut and can be used internally and externally. Originally it comes in a solid, yet quite soft, buttery state but in contact with skin turns liquid.

This tropical oil is rich in beneficial fats like lauric acid and medium chain triglycerides that benefit the body. Internally it improves bone health, helps in easy digestion, strengthens immune system, prevents liver and kidney diseases, and thanks to lauric acid it helps maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Externally it prevents wrinkles, sagging skin, skin dryness and flaking, reduces protein loss in hair and nourishes it, and it can be used in healing damaged tissues (like wounds and bruises) and infections. There are many articles on benefits and uses of coconut oil, but I will focus on how I use it.

Cooking : Coconut oil can replace any vegetable oil in cooking, and it gives the dish an oriental note. If you're a fan of Asian cuisine, you should give it a try. You can use it for frying or baking, especially the sweet food.
Smoothies: As mentioned before, coconut oil helps maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and therefore is a great sweetener. I use it in all kinds of smoothies and it gives them nice sweet flavor.
Note: some people use it in coffee or tea, but I haven’t tried it yet so I don’t have an opinion on it.
Makeup remover: It comes in very handy when removing matte liquid lipsticks (check my previous post), which are hard to remove with micellar water or cleansing milk. It is also great for removing waterproof makeup like mascara and eyeliner. What I like to do is to dab 1-2 drops of oil on my eyelids, concentrating on eyelash area, leave it for 10-15 seconds and wipe it off with cotton pad. It might not remove everything, but it makes it easier to wash it off with any facial cleansing product.
DIY body scrubs: I love making body scrubs with coffee (if you’d like to know the recipe, just ask), because I love everything related to coffee. You can use as much components as you like, or just two – coconut oil and salt or sugar. Not only does the scrub remove dead skin, it also stimulates circulation and coconut oil nourishes the skin, leaving it as soft as baby’s.

Skin Care: I only recently started to use oils in my skin care. I am an owner of combination skin, with oily to normal T-zone and dry cheeks, and I’ve also noticed my skin is getting drier with age. So far my skin loves the coconut oil, it absorbs it rather quickly, looks and feels nourished and soft, and the oil reduced the number of regularities such as spots, pimples and fine lines. Warning: different skin reacts differently to this oils, and it might prove to be comedogenic to some skin types, so be careful.
Hair care: Last but not the least, the most used purpose of the coconut oil in my case. I love putting it in DIY hair mask, but also using it by itself. I have dyed hair, with oily to normal scalp and very dry ends. When I have time, I like to massage it into my scalp, spread it all the way to the ends, and leave it in for couple of hours. It washes off fairly easily, and it leaves the hair smooth and soft. It is especially noticeable on the ends. I also like to combine it with castor oil for scalp massage, because it supposed to stimulate the hair growth. My hair grows really slowly and I haven’t noticed any improvement in the speed of growth, but I noticed a lot of baby hair and my hair does look thicker. Sometimes after washing I use a teeny tiny bit of oil with some styling product just to smooth it a bit more. You should be careful with this step, though, because if you take more oil it can make hair look greasy.

And that is pretty much it. I really like coconut oil and I always have it around. Since I started using it I noticed a lot of changes on my hair and skin, as well as my immunity. I believe a lot of you have already tried it, but for you who haven’t – give it a go! Thanks for reading
